Ati Manel Spiced Smoked Sardine Pate

Sardines are smoked first, then blended with extra virgin olive oil, tomato, vinegar, pepper and a touch of chilli. The result is a spread that is smoky and savoury up front, with a gentle heat that builds slowly rather than overpowering the fish. Ati Manel is named after the great-grandfather of one of its founders, a mid-20th-century Portuguese canner. The brand was revived by Luís Mendonça and Adriano Ribeiro, also behind Jose Gourmet, to make crafted tins at an everyday price.
